With just a few days left in fall camp for the No. 4 Clemson Tigers, the coaching staff is narrowing down the roster and starting to figure out who will help the team in 2022.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney chose not to release the preseason depth chart, so everyone is guessing how the manpower stacks up. I decided to find out what the depth chart looked like before the opening game on September 5th with.
Based on what we’ve gathered so far, let’s take a look at the attack.
quarterback
Army 1: DJ Uiagarelai
Second team: Cade Krabnik
Third Team: hunter johnson
The coaches are adamant that Wiagalerei won the starting job, and with no QB battles in fall camp, this is easy to fill in. They are in second place and are expected to qualify for the game soon. Johnson is a reliable and experienced third-place player in his second stint with the Tigers.
run back
beginning: Will Shipley
Number 2: kobe pace or phil muffer
the 4th: Domonique Thomas
Shipley gets his first job on Labor Day, but this is a three-headed monster in the backfield and the coach feels good about any of them carrying the ball. Pace and Muffer are really 1B and 1C. If healthy, all three will participate in all games. Thomas won the scholarship last weekend, and he was mentioned as the fourth man to beat this position by OC Brandon Streeter.
wide receiver
First: (9) Joseph Ngata
(Five) Brannon Spector
(2) Bo Collins
Second: (9) Dakari Collins
(Five) EJ Williams or Antonio Williams
(2) Spector or EJ Williams
Now this isn’t an overly healthy position and until we have a healthier body it’s hard to combine more than two depths. It could move up the depth chart in the last two weeks. Spector will likely dominate the rotation, but freshman Antonio Williams will be strong this fall. Bo his Collins is on track for a comeback from his shoulder problem by Week 1, but Spector or his EJ Williams could be out if he fails to start. Randall tore his ACL in March, but is due to return in September. Troy Stellart is out this season. Former QB Will Taylor isn’t on the list, but he could be in the slot (or 5) spot.
tight end
beginning: Davis Allen
scroll to continue
Number 2: Sage Ennis Jake Bringingstool
Allen is the clear starter after recording the third-most receptions on the team a year ago. Ennis would play more in block situations. With Briningstool having a good camp and their sophomore starting to look comfortable and playing more, they could be forced into the rotation early in the season.
offensive line
left tackle
beginning: Jordan McFadden
Number 2: Marcus Tate or Tristan Lee
left guard
beginning: vertical
Number 2: McFadden, Trent Howard, Mitchell Mays
center
beginning: Will Putnam
Number 2: Ryan Linthicum or Howard
right guard
beginning: walker parks
Number 2: Howard or Mayes
Third: dietrick pennington
right tackle
beginning: break mirror
Number 2: park
There are many intrigues in the five positions on the front line. Freshman Miller is highly regarded by his teammates and coaches and tends to start playing against GT. That would move Parks, who started all 13 games at right tackle a year ago, to the inside. It could also help the highly touted Lee get more on the field. The centers are all Putnam’s, but number two is anyone’s guess for now.
