Sorority recruitment is all the rage on social media. From dressing up for a workshop week to her fun TikTok, everyone has their eyes on life in Greece.

Recruitment, or rush, is how college women join sororities. During the recruitment process, potential new members, hoping to find their own homes away from home, traveled back and forth in sorority lines throughout the day to meet each sorority’s home at LSU. or The days are long and full of parties. I don’t have much time to go back to my dormitory.

The Panhellenic Council at Louisiana State University provides potential new members (PNMs) with a mandatory bag to use. Panhellenic President Olivia Christopher said it’s most important to pack everything you need in a bag to spend days in long lines. , you can find most of what you need.

Here are the 5 items you need in your Recruiting Bag.

1. Bag tag

All PNMs are given the same bag, so Christopher recommends adding a ribbon or name tag. No need to buy anything special. A simple hair tie or sticker can add a little personality and help identify the bag.

2. Portable fan

August is one of the hottest months in Louisiana. Keeping cool during the day is a difficult task to accomplish. Panhellenic Treasurer Emma Grace Laughlin recommends carrying a portable fan.

“It’s so hot, you can’t think about anything when it’s hot,” said Laughlin.

From handheld fans to hands-free neck fans, there are many ways PNM can carry your air conditioner. Don’t forget your batteries!

3. Mobile phone charger

Stephanie Lofton, Director of Recruitment Counselors, says mobile chargers are a must, as the prospective recruitment party schedule will be accessible from mobile phones. According to Lofton, when PNM’s phones go down, it’s hard to keep track of schedules.

The PowerCore Select 20000 Power Bank, Dual Port Cell Phone Charger is priced at $39.99 and has great reviews online. The Onn Portable Battery starts at $7.98 and comes in a variety of fun colors.

If PNM’s phone fails, her Gamma Chi can always access her schedule, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, Lofton says.

4. Umbrella

Louisiana suffers from unpredictable weather. Don’t let the clear morning sky fool you. A raincoat or an umbrella might fill up your bag, but they are essential. Lofton said he wished he had an umbrella while recruiting.

5. Snacks

Most hiring parties are back to back. Hungry conversations are never productive. So packing snacks is always a great idea.

“You don’t know your schedule until you get in line, so if the day is long, it’s good to have a snack,” said Christopher.

The LSU Panhellenic Council announced the creation of the Sierra Frazier Memorial Scholarship Fund for new members in an August 6 Instagram post.

The hiring process can be daunting for PNMs. The days will be exhausting, the weather unpredictable and you will have to make choices. All PNMs have highs and lows, but being prepared to deal with each can help alleviate some of the stress.

“Recruitment seems like the biggest deal in the whole world right now, but everything will work out as it should,” Laughlin said. “Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy.”
